Inspiration to My Writing

For me, inspiration comes from many different sources and events surrounding my life, a close friend or family member, or someone random stranger. I like to people watch. Sitting in a busy place I love to try and figure out what that person’s particular story could be. I will almost study them to the point it could be considered staring, watching their body language, interactions with others, and mannerisms they will you. Then try and write their story in my head. Often times ,I will end up writing down what I’ve encountered in that moment and develop it into a short story in a matter of moments. Or I will see or hear of a certain event that’s happened and it will remind me of story I am currently working on. I will find a why to incorporate it into the story.

Scarred Love in particular was inspired by countless stories surrounding childhood abuse. Every time I would turn on the TV or read an article there was something new to report of a child who was either kidnapped, abused, or worse killed by the hands at the people who were suppose to care for them.

The thought festered in my head and really bothered me. Then in the middle of the night Darcie’s story started writing itself in my thoughts and I flew to the computer to take it down. I wanted tell a story of a girl who was rescued from unimaginable abuse and make her into a fighter/survivor. I wanted show that it does not matter who you’re legal bound to, family are the people who will do anything to protect you.

Then of course I wanted to tie it all together and have her fall in love. All of this inspiration came from small news segments and articles I read about children suffering from abuse by the hands of people who were suppose to love them.

About M. S. Brannon

I was born and raised in the Midwest where I still reside today with my wonderful husband and son. When I’m not writing or reading, you can find me spending time with my family and friends, watching Family Guy, or at the computer discovering new music. I can honestly say I’ve never aspired to be a writer, let alone publish a book. One day I finally decided to put my daydreams down on paper and created a story. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else for a living and I hope one day it will be my dream come true. I write because I believe love and heartache is the rawest emotion one can experience. And there’s no better way to experience it than to immerse yourself in a book.
