Evil never really dies. It rises, again and again.

Now—Kari knows it’s rising inside her.

After barely defeating wicked Shadow Witch Raven, the wolf-demon knows her turmoil is far from over when her vanquished foe invades her dreams. And a new power stirs within her: thanks to Raven’s cunning, Kari’s potential as the Catalyst has awoken. A conduit for a terrifying, world-cracking force—one that could open at any moment.

Kari has resisted this new temptation thus far. But Raven again forces her hand, unleashing a demonic abomination to draw her prey out—a deadlier foe than any Kari has faced before. If she taps into this dark new power, she could become strong enough to defend the people she cares about. But the Catalyst has bloodthirsty designs of its own…

If she submits, what new horrors will be inflicted on the world Kari’s come to love?

A Day in Your Writing Life

Once upon a time, I had a job that allowed me a lot of down time. I wrote pretty steadily throughout the day, either on my phone (texting to myself), or in little notebooks I carried with me. Any time an idea struck me, I was ready to jot it down and even had time and space to do so.

Now, I have a new, demanding job! I love it so much, but it has taken so much of my writing time. Though I have no regrets, I have had to make some major adjustments and also considered if I have some form of ADD. A day in my writing life looks more like this now:

Wake up and roll out of bed.

Go get clothes for the day. As I’m walking, I’m usually thinking about something about my stories (for instance, this week I thought a lot about how Kari can help Ari with an issue he has in book 7).

Shower. More thinking! I get a lot of scene progressions in my head down here, and pray they stay in my memory long enough for me to remember to write them down or text them.

Breakfast and playing with cat. Still, the thoughts…

Driving to work, it’s a short, 5-minute commute. Clock in, then wait for the day to start. At this point, I have about 15 minutes to myself. I’ll text the scene I considered that morning (or even the night before!) to make sure I have it later.

*On a typical work day, I am TOTALLY unable to get any physical writing done. On occasion there are days that are a little looser where I might pull out my journal and jot down scenes (I was able to do that this week, got 2-3 scenes done!). Otherwise, it is LITERALLY all in my head.

After work, I return home. If the day went semi-well, I am still pretty mentally pooped to do anything worthwhile for my own projects. I focus a lot on other peoples’ projects (beta reading is a big one). Even so, I like to try and get down all the scenes I wrote for the day, or the week, onto a word document.

When I go to bed, sometimes I’m hit with a spark of inspiration and text it to myself RIGHT AWAY. I’ve even rolled over out of a sleepy stupor, grabbed my phone, and texted something with one eye open.

Then, I sleep…

All in all, writing has become a chaotic “I’ll do it when I can” method. I work at a school, so my time during the day is not at all my own anymore. I do have some down time during school breaks that I use to good effect, though!

So much of my writing is (and has always been, at least a little) about finding sparks of random inspiration throughout my day. A text from a friend can send my brain spiraling into new ideas; something a kid says can spark the thought for a scene I was stuck on. It’s all absolute chaos, and honestly, that’s on the mark for me!
