My name is Tamsin Vale and my life is about to get real… Really complicated and ridiculously dangerous. Which is almost funny given at nineteen I already know too much of the darkness of the world and people, the secrets they keep. Or so I thought. Turns out those quirky abilities I’ve been keeping secret expose me to a world I didn’t know existed. Sure, I knew I wasn’t human—but how exactly do I find out more without ending up in the wrong hands? And I’m not so sure I’m in the right hands now given some of the reactions to finding me. They say I’m the last fairy. I’m not sure I should trust them when their thoughts are mostly of power and how to use me. But I’m also not sure I have much of a choice. My powers are dangerous and I don’t know how to use them. They promise to teach me what I need to know and give me a chance at something I’ve never had before. A normal life. I don’t think anything about Artemis University and those who attend is normal, but it’s still better than the life I’ve been living if they keep half their promises. I think hoping they’ll keep half is generous.

MY THOUGHTS

I’m going to start by saying that, yes, there are definitely some flaws in the writing and story. Tamsin gets away with a lot and it’s hard to believe that people just listen without interrupting when she monologues. However, I really enjoyed the overall story and got over those things without a problem.

About the Characters

Tamsin is whoe I want to be when I grow up. She’s a badass who takes no crap and makes sure people know it. She’s generous and unafraid to be herself – including being totally silly in public. Mel is like a big sister, is very loyal, and extremely protective. Izzy is just bubbly, adorable, and addictive. As for the guys, I don’t want to give them away yet.

Things I Liked

I love Tamsin’s sense of fairness and justice, as well as how badass she is and how she uses it. She teases her men in the best ways. I definitely appreciate those fantasies. The magic in the world has a level of physics and overall makes life neat with a rune for everything.

Things I Didn’t Like

I do love how Tamsin puts people in their place, but – again – the monologues feel unrealistic as they run long and repetitive. Pepole wouldn’t just sit quietly and hear her out. Also, while we as readers appreciate living vicariously through the fantasy of romance books, having SO MANY orgasms actually pulls me out of the moment.

More Thoughts

I wish I had the determined will to work out like Tamsin does. The magic makes life seem a bit easy, but I’m in it for the story and the overall fantasy. I have a great suspension of disbelief and can turn a blind eye to little issues (and sometimes big ones).

Bottom Line

This was an enthralling beginning to a series that looks to have something for everyone.

About Erin R Flynn

Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal. To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
