Colt is my comfort. He’s the first one to hold my hand when life becomes hard. Creed is my support. He always has my back, is always ready to help me battle the world or my insecurities. Keelan is my joy. He effortlessly makes me laugh and exudes a light even when days become dark. Knox is my strength. He holds me together even when I want to break. Each of my guys is a great man and each fills a missing piece of my broken soul. I’m falling in love with them. Maybe I already have. The question is, do they love me back? I’d cherish every moment if they did. It’s what you do when you hear a clock constantly tick in the back of your head. I know it’s my gut warning me that I’m on borrowed time. Something bad is going to happen. And my gut has never been wrong.

MY THOUGHTS

It’s been said that this series relies heavily on suspension of disbelief. I think anything kind of does and would not have applied “heavily” to this series – until this book. I’m pretty good at overlooking things and clinging hard to my suspension of disbelief for the sake of enjoying a story, but if that’s not you, this will not be your book. Even as good as I am, I’m left with some mixed feelings after reading this.

About the Characters

Shiloh is really very strong willed and I love that she knows her worth. However, I think she does a poor job of listening to and trusting her instincts like she did in the previous books. Colt and Creed are still the hot duo she seems to spend the most time with. Keelan is still the fun one (in every way if you ask me). Knox is the broody one who in a way still can’t seem to make up his mind.

Things I Liked

I love how the guys all rallied around Shiloh at every turn. They were always on her side and stood by her. I love how things ultimately played out with the guys, especially at the Halloween party. I love how close she and Isabelle got and that entire friendship.

Things I Didn’t Like

Several more over-the-top things happen with more unrealistic scenarios in this book than the last two. I love Knox and was really looking forward to some fun bedroom time, but he actually frustrated me more often than not. For someone in Shiloh’s situation, you’d think she’d be more careful and suspicious of suspicious things! I can’t go into specifics because of spoilers, but there is one night in particular with Shiloh that is especially disturbing. The book has a trigger warning for a reason so definitely don’t ignore it!

More Thoughts

The overall feel of this book is a little different as the stakes are raised and we have more people in play, so to speak. Logan turns into uber-jerk and hurts Shiloh every time he opens his mouth and while I get that he’s handling his grief his own way – and poorly – I don’t truly understand why he’s so hurtful, but the guys help her through it all. Despite the predictibility, the mounting tension kept me on edge from the beginning right up to the most evil cliffhanger ending yet.

Does it stand alone?

No. Each book picks up right where the last one leaves off.

Bottom Line

With fun time and nervous ones, this books brings all the best out of our guys, but all the darkness in Shiloh’s life to the front, leaving me with my racing heart aching.
