My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m the last known fairy, fighting to find out what happened to all fairies and our world. But I’m running out of hope, and it has a lot to do with the four pieces of my soul I no longer have with me. Going through one breakup is terrible, but four in rapid succession is… More than one person can handle. I spent all summer fighting for fair folk, and fighting the councils, and fighting for the supes who need it, instead of taking a break. And I’m tired, mostly because I have so much trouble sleeping, missing the men I loved and didn’t want to admit I cared for. Still, I can’t quit, so I keep pushing on. That’s what it means to be an adult and have responsibilities. I’m not alone, and I have help pushing me to keep going, teaching me what I need, so we can win the fights we need to. I can… I really don’t think I can do this.

MY THOUGHTS

Tamsin goes through some serious depression. She’s on the outs with all of her men for whom she’s come to care a great deal. I can’t blame her for any of it, but I’m still rooting for Craftsman, Hudson, and Darby. Lucca gains a bigger role in Tamsin’s life and I don’t know how I feel about it. She makes new allies, but also has to deal with persistent enemies.

About the Characters

Despite her depression, Tamsin keeps her wits about her and continues to do what she needs to and stay involved in everything. Craftsman, Darby, and Hudson are all trying to navigate through Tamsin’s traumas and heartache to stay a part of her life. Lucca is hot and all, but he’s pretty aggressive and it worries me.

Things I Liked

I enjoy the drama in this series: Tamsin’s struggle to keep her secrets, the romantic turmoil, and the occasional life or death situation. This book in particular has some big moments of all of that.

Things I Didn’t Like

There are a lot of editing mistakes in this book. Tamsin’s frequent monologuing is really starting to get to me. I also really can’t believe people haven’t figured it out. I enjoy the story with people not knowing, but it is really hard to keep up my suspension of disbelief.

More Thoughts

We meet some new people and they give me mixed feelings. Larson seems to be on Tamsin’s side, but can be kind of a jerk too. The random demons are creepy and omenous, but are then never seen or heard from again. They’re barely even brought up again. Tamsin has a reunion with Blake that’s loads of fun. Calloway ends up in some serious heat, complicating her relationship with Tamsin. Finally, I just really want more of Hudson.

Does it stand alone?

Nope.

Bottom Line

This is a very dramatic installment in the series that raises the stakes and leaves the reader in tears and wanting more.

About Erin R Flynn

Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal. To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
