Morgan has been banned from hunting until she learns to control her powers and her impulsive nature. Her team is so focused on her training, she feels more alone and alienated than ever. She must make the heartbreaking decision to stay and fight for the men who mean everything to her or turn her back on the Academy to survive. But the choice is taken from her when the Academy is viciously attacked, and Morgan is abducted and dumped into the Primordial Realm. Abandoned and unable to get back to the Academy, Morgan must take a crash course in survival in this alien world. As she investigates the deadly mist sweeping through the Realm, she is horrified to discover that her team has followed her, determined to earn back her trust. With their lives in danger, Morgan will do whatever it takes to save them, even if it means entering Tartarus and uncovering the secrets of the forgotten gods. With the cure in hand, they must defeat monsters from myths and legends—and their worst nightmares—and escape the gates of hell, or risk becoming forever trapped and forced to watch the destruction of their world.

MY THOUGHTS

The first book was exclusively from Morgan’s point of view, but this time we get the occasional perspective from Kincade. I wonder if we’ll get one guy per book or if we’ll start getting more from all the guys in general. I got a little turned around at times due to a lot of traveling – often by portal. Morgan gets a little frustrating as she waffles on whether or not she was committing to the team or not. It slowed things a bit for me and I want to see more from her and her men.

About the Characters

Kind hearted Morgan is quick thinking and resilient, even when under great emotional distress. Kincade is gruff and protective, but at least he finally starts to loosen up a little. Ryder gains some confidence while still sweetly shy. Draven is lighter and sassier than the others and I love him for it. Ascher is loyal and supportive and I love his sweet wonder at not being able to burn Morgan. Atlas overcomes some big mistakes and I look forward to seeing a new side of him.

Things I Liked

I love that Morgan holds Ryder’s leash when he’s losing control of his wolf. The team is working better as a unit and sort of includes two new members. I love anything phoenix related so that was a pleasant surprise and I absolutely love Loki. I want a Loki.

Things I Didn’t Like

At one point, Draven mentions an inability to be monogamous and that’s not been addressed at all. I’ve decided I’m not going to read any more bonus material as this one leads me to believe there’s some serious drama coming in the next book of a nature I kind of hate, so now I’m afraid the next book could ruin the series for me.

More Thoughts

The pantheon intrigues me and I look forward to learning more. I also hope things between Morgan and her mates can progress now that no one is fighting the bond.

Does it stand alone?

It could, but as always, it would be a lot better if read in order.

Bottom Line

This emotionally charged sequel left me wanting more.
