A cold case. A coven gone dark. Morgan and her men decide to take some time away from the Academy to cement their bonds and investigate the mysterious disappearance. Unfortunately, what should’ve been a routine mission quickly goes sideways when they’re attacked, turning their intimate vacation into a nightmare. The weakening wards around the coven are the only thing keeping the evil from spilling into the human world…and holding the Assassins captive. Escaping would mean leaving one of her own behind to battle the ancient evil alone. Not happening. Which means they need to discover a way to send the beasts that escaped from hell back to where they belong…before Morgan and her men become monsters themselves.

MY THOUGHTS

I’m not going to lie, my first thought was “finally, love scenes!” There’s one with each mate (hope that’s not considered a spoiler), which is great. The story itself was a little confusing, but overall very fascinating. It’s different from the previous books which is always fun, and I adored the ending.

About the Characters

Honestly, the consistency with which the characters keep their integrity is great. Morgan is a badass. Kincade is a strong leader. Ryder is an adorable protector. Ascher is fiercely loyal. Atlas is intense. Draven is the fun one.

Things I Liked

We seem to always be meeting new characters and it’s great because they continue to be interesting and bring excitement. There is a very formidable foe in this book, and while the conflicts in past books have been big, this baddie is particularly eerie.

Things I Didn’t Like

I really liked the conflict and everything, however I remain a bit confused as to exactly how it originally began or quite how the situation evolved.

More Thoughts

Despite my enjoyment of the book, I wish we’d gotten to see more of Morgan and her young charge. I look forward to seeing more of her pack and the academy itself. I definitely need to see what her future holds.

Does it stand alone?

For the most part, this one is self contained and could stand on its own pretty well.

Bottom Line

This was a very exciting and titillating installment in this mystical series.
