Born with the ability to defy death, Annora has been warned to keep her gift secret, but her greedy uncle can’t resist exploiting her by any means necessary. Starvation, beatings, broken bones—she’s survived them all and emerged stronger. But it’s not enough for him. It will never be enough. When she discovers her uncle plans to sell her to the highest bidder, she risks everything to escape the prison that has become her life. The last thing she expected was to land at a university for supernaturals…or be paired with a pack of men as broken as her. As students go missing, Annora can’t get over the suspicion that she’s being hunted. To protect her, the guys must set aside their personal troubles and begin working as a team. But as her past collides with her present, she must make the ultimate sacrifice and expose her secrets to save the guys who’ve become more than family to her…and hope she’s strong enough to live with the consequences.

MY THOUGHTS

This was a well paced, intriguing story with good world building and strong characterization. I didn’t realize this series was by the same author as the last series I read (Academy of Assassins), but I definitely saw the similarities: a team from an academy, the number of guys, rough histories, and loyal sidekick turned surprise mate – all of which I like.

About the Characters

Annora has an incredibly strong spirit, is quick thinking, protective, and very strong willed. Camden is a bit abrasive, but sweet in his own way. Logan is a bit of a man-whore, but he’s a strong badass, yet generous and caring. Xander is the strong silent type a lot, but also a bit teasing. He also appears to be the medic of the group. Mason is an alpha male, but is also very much the sweetest of the group.

Things I Liked

Annora’s abilities were neat and all of the guys’ shifter forms were cool and different. The ferrets were adorably mischief. I loved how everybody fit together with Annora’s resilience and the brokenness of the guys.

Things I Didn’t Like

The guys are all different species, and quite individual, yet their personalities were similar enough that I occasionally mixed them up. I appreciated that Annora had a lot to fear in her life and all, but she seemed to fear her own powers quite a bit despite how powerful she was and how reliant she’d become on them through her life.

More Thoughts

The various races are so fascinating that I am definitely interested in more from the world, and Annora’s powers are so unique that I would love to understand them better.

Bottom Line

This was an intriguing start to what promises to be a refreshing new paranormal reverse harem series.
